Baskin Robbins recently announced the availability of vegan ice cream options in their stores. Interesting. I’m thrilled that more and more large brands are finally adding options for everyone.
When I was a child, going to Baskin Robbins was rare and a giant treat. I would excitedly try several flavors and always get the mint chocolate chip ice cream. I adored the waxy chocolate that got stuck on my teeth and enjoyed for a while after I finished my treat. Weird, right? As an adult I forgot about the waxy chocolate since Baskin Robbins ice cream was not an option. Until last night.
A friend took me for ice cream last night and we walked over to the local Baskin Robbins and Dunkin Donuts shop. It looked nothing like what I remember from my childhood. I remember a white store with what felt like miles of ice cream flavors, 31 flavors!
Im fairly certain there were not 31 flavors, but I didn’t count. There was only one vegan flavor of ice cream.
Just like my childhood experiences, I got to try the flavor before ordering a scoop. It’s very sweet, so I got a child size scoop. It has the waxy chocolate I remembered, but I don’t like it as much now. It was fun to remember everything.
I’m not sure how often I will go for Baskin Robbins vegan ice cream. There are so many delicious options today without waxy chocolate. But it’s worth trying and see if the experience brings any memories back.
