Yes, this restaurant has the same name as the one in Turin. Soul Kitchen in Genoa (Genova in Italian), Italy is a vegan, slow-food restaurant on the side streets of the city. Not far from the train station.
During our recent Italy trip we decided to take a day trip to Genoa, a smaller, seaside old city, steeped in maritime history. The city is known for many foods and Farinata is one of them. The story goes that chickpea flour on a ship was flooded with water during a storm and they tried to dry it out, making the flatbread. It’s delicious.
Anyway, Hollywood elite once loved this city and walking the narrow, hilly streets is a joy, even on a very hot day.

Eating is an essential part of any new city adventure. There is a vegan Italian restaurant, but being gluten-free inspired us to dig a bit deeper to find Soul Kitchen.
Similar to Turin, Genoa is not a typical vacation destination for English-speakers. We did not encounter anyone speaking English. No matter, my Spanish helps me understand and Google Translate fills gaps. We explained I was gluten-free and our server pointed to the options on the menu.
I picked out the gnocchi and tempe. Hubby picked out the fritters, gnocchi, and bao buns. He was very hungry. I don’t normally enjoy gnocchi. They are like soggy dumplings with a chewy center here in the States. Wow, authentic gnocchi is incredible. Fluffy potato pillows that melted in my mouth. I adored every bite. I’m not a huge fan of tempe in general, but wanted the protein to keep me satiated. It was okay. Hubby loved everything he ordered. They also brought out two plates of bread, one gluten-free for me. So kind!

This unexpected lunch we quickly found after arriving in Genoa was one of the best meals during our entire trip. The food was so fresh and delicious. The staff was kind and patient with us. The space was simple and clean.

Soul Kitchen in Genoa gets four out of five vegan cupcakes. If ever in this city, definitely stop here for a meal.
