Almost 20 years ago I lived in Galveston, Texas. I have fond memories of eating at the Original Mexican Cafe. Even back then it was easy to enjoy a vegan meal at this unassuming restaurant. It was such fun to revisit.
Located on the eastern side of the downtown area of the island, the Original Mexican Cafe has been welcoming diners for decades. There is a vegetarian section on their menu and the margheritas are tasty. The staff has always been kind and the food fresh.
Hubby and I gleefully sat down in anticipation of a delicious meal. Hubby ordered the mango margherita and I asked for a large guacamole to start. Their guacamole is mild and full of avocado flavor. Everyone also gets endless chips and mild salsa.

Yummers! For dinner we ordered fajitas for two. I had forgotten exactly what this entre was like and not at all disappointed. A giant plate of grilled veggies with a second plate of rice, beans, guacamole, and pico de Gallo. I also asked for corn tortillas that arrived hot.

The space is full of tables and kitch. There is also an upstairs of more tables. There is plenty of room, even if dining at a busy time.

The Original Mexican Cafe gets four out of five vegan cupcakes. Delicious food, kind staff, and several options.
