David Bann in Edinburgh

David Bann is the fancy restaurant for vegetarian and vegan food in Edinburgh. All the articles I read said this was a place not to miss. I was excited. We arrived at 4:00 for an early dinner to avoid having to make a reservation.

We dug into a surprisingly large menu. Fancy restaurants often have a smaller menu that frequently changes with the seasons. I ordered a virgin Bloody Mary. Hubby ordered something alcoholic that he felt was watered down. Oops. My drink was spicy, just like it should be. This turned out to be my favorite part of the meal.

To start, we picked out the chunky chips (steak fries in the US) and Kibbeh.

The fries were fries, nothing particularly special, and the dips not flavorful. The Kibbeh was okay, but nothing spectacular.

I ordered the Risotto for dinner. Hubby picked out the Leaffy Salad. Risotto is one of those dishes that can easily go wrong.

You might be able to see from my photo that the Risotto went wrong. It’s not supposed to have the consistency of soggy soup. Hubby’s salad was okay.

There were no desserts that enticed us. Additionally, our server was way more interested in a table of six next to us. No one came to ask us how our food was or if we wanted anything else. It was even hard to get more water. We had to flag down the hostess. I finally got our server’s attention with the universal hand sign for the check.

We were very disappointed with David Bann. Especially after all the hype I had read. David Bann gets one of five vegan cupcakes. The food was not great while also being expensive, and the service did not match the price tag. I do not recommend visiting this restaurant.
